About the Artwork
I am very much influenced by the post minimalist art movement. My heart is drawn to the perfect symmetry of the circle and the square. I often guild my work in gold leaf to signify the preciousness of the piece.
In this piece, I wanted to demonstrate that South Carolina is imbedded with international diversity. I wanted to work with the rubber as if it were fabric to create flags from countries around the world. The flags are reminiscent of the entry way to the United Nations that give you a sense of grandeur when standing in their presence. Culture and diversity are the very fabric from which we are made.
