About the Artwork

Upstate Artist Patricia Thomas answers the question, “How does the Upstate celebrate International Inclusion?” with a simple answer, “By using good ol’ Southern hospitality.” The Upstate is well known for its welcoming hospitality of all cultures in its celebrations. Festivals such as Euphoria, Fall for Greenville, and Upstate International activities always celebrate the diversity of the world and its cuisines. Patricia’s tire sculpture is of a pineapple, the internationally recognized symbol for Welcome. Every nation has its unique and favorite food and libations and the Upstate loves to share these recipes and tasty cuisine samples with the world. Bon Appetit!

About the Team

The organization Patricia Thomas has chosen as recipient of the $5K donation is Bike Walk Greenville. Bike Walk Greenville is a local nonprofit advocacy group dedicated to increasing public awareness of the greater Greenville area’s need for safe streets for all forms of transportation. As Greenville grows, traffic congestion also grows. Greenville’s plans for the future need to include other forms of mobility such as mass transit, pedestrian traffic, and bicycles. Obesity rates are climbing, and Greenville could use more welcoming streets to make it easier for our citizens to get a little more activity into our day, such as walking and/or biking to work or school.
