About the Artwork

Our sculpture focuses on inclusion of women in the workforce – past, present, and future. The global dialogue surrounding equality and women’s rights served as inspiration for this concept.

Over 25 Upstate organizations have collaborated to develop a diversified workforce of future industry leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), including programs aimed at inspiring critically underrepresented groups such as women and minorities. The Upstate celebrates this initiative through engaging community festivals — like iMagine Upstate and STEM Fest at Roper Mountain Science Center, as well as through education outreach programs and continuing advancement awards like CU-ICAR’s prestigious Bosch fellowship.

About the Team

The Lead Academy Public Charter School’s team consists of thirteen 7th & 8th grade art students and their art teacher. We are a free, public charter school founded on the belief that every child can achieve at an exceptionally high level, regardless of background or circumstance. As an Expeditionary Learning school, we affirm that diversity and inclusion increases the richness of ideas, creative power, problem-solving ability, and respect for others. Lead Academy students are encouraged to investigate and value their different histories and talents as well as those of other communities and cultures.
