MICHELIN Tire Art Contest
Official Rules and Regulations
Contest Runs: October 15, 2015- March 31, 2016


The Michelin InTIREnational Art Contest {the “Contest} sponsored by Michelin North America, Inc. {the “Sponsor”} provides the opportunity for participating persons to create a piece of artwork with an international theme using up to four (4) scrap tires donated by Michelin. Michelin will donate a total of $10,000 to two (2) winners. One winner, the People’s Choice, will be awarded to the entry that receives the most votes on the contest’s website that is open to all members of the public. The second winner will be selected by a panel of judges. Each winning entry will receive a $5,000 donation to a charity, school, or non-profit of its choice.

Michelin is hosting the InTIREnational Art Contest as part of Upstate International, a month-long series of events that pay tribute to the contributions by international residents to make the Upstate rich and dynamic. Michelin is honored to be a 2016 sponsor for Upstate International.


NO PURCHASE NECESSARY, VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW. The Contest is open to all legal residents of South Carolina. The Contest is open to individuals as well as participating teams, including schools, universities, businesses, and non-profit organizations. Limit of one (1) entry per individual, per team, per Contest. A single organization may have more than one participating team. The Contest is open to the first fifty (50) teams who pre-register online at inspiredtires.com.

Michelin employees and their families are eligible to participate, but must work in conjunction with an Upstate {charity: 501c3} school or charitable organization. Michelin employees must follow the rules and guidelines as outlined in this document.

Individuals and/or the Team Sponsor must be at least (18) eighteen years of age at the time of entry. Michelin North America, Inc. (“Michelin”) reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to cancel the Contest in its entirety for any reason and at any time. In the event the Contest is cancelled, Sponsor will select winners from all eligible entries prior to exercising its rights to suspend or cancel the Contest. Participation in the Contest constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and the decisions of Sponsor, which decisions are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein.


The Contest opens at 9:00 AM EST on October 15, 2015. At that time, all eligible persons are invited to register individually or by team online at www.inspiredtires.com. Registration opens at 9:00 AM EST on October 15, 2015 and closes at 11:59 PM EST on November 30, 2015. Participants must register in order to participate in the Contest. Registered participants will receive up to four (4) scrap tires from Michelin and be given five weeks (from January 11 – February 19/20, 2016) to convert the tires into a piece of art that addresses the question: How Does the Upstate Celebrate International Inclusion. Each registered participant will receive full details on tire pick-up and entry drop-off in a registration package to be sent via email no later than December 31, 2015. Each registered participant/team will receive a maximum of four (4) tires.

Participants will have five (5) weeks to submit an entry. Entries must be a reasonable size with the ability to transport easily as needed. Participating teams will be asked to drop off their entry at the Hughes Main Library, Heritage Green, Downtown Greenville on Friday, February 19 and Saturday, February 20, 2016. Full details on entry drop-off will be provided to registered participants via email. Limit one (1) entry per person, per team, per Contest.

All entries should be dropped off no later than 3:00 PM (EST) on Saturday, February 20, 2016 to be included in the contest.


Two (2) winners will be selected from all submittals. A selection committee will review all submittals and select one of the winners based on the criteria outlined below. The second winner will be chosen by the public. Images of entries will be posted on www.inspiredtires.com along with a paragraph about the team and the artwork. The public will have the opportunity to review all submittals and vote online to select a People’s Choice Award winner based on the same criteria:

  • Overall design and execution
    How creative is the overall design? How well did the participant(s) execute the concept?
  • Tire usage
    How well did the participant(s) use and incorporate scrap tires into the overall design?
  • International theme
    How well did the participant(s) communicate an international theme through the artwork?
  • Inclusion
    How well did the participant answer the question: How does the Upstate celebrate International Inclusion?

Each winning entry will receive a $5,000 donation to be given to an Upstate {charity:501c3} school or charitable organization of its choice.

The winning entries will be announced at an event on Thursday, April 7, 2016.

All fees, costs and expenses associated with donation receipt, redemption and use that are not specifically mentioned herein, including without limitation, federal, state/provincial and local taxes, are the sole responsibility of the winners. Subject to verification of eligibility and compliance, all prizes will be awarded assuming sufficient eligible Entries are received. In no event will Sponsor be responsible to award more than the stated donation amount herein. Potential Prize winners will be notified, using the contact information provided at time of entry, by telephone or email (in Sponsor’s sole discretion) on or within approximately seven (7) days of the close of the relevant Contest Entry Period and will be required to timely respond to the notification.


There is no monetary compensation for artwork submissions. Michelin bears no responsibility for any damage to the artwork while on exhibit at the Hughes Main Library or while in transport to the final award ceremony at Michelin’s corporate headquarters.

Michelin reserves the right to display or dispose of the artwork upon completion of the Contest on or after Monday, April 11, 2016. If an organization wishes to retain the artwork following the Contest, please contact Kristan Gillespie at (864) 346-3077 or by email at kristan.gillespie@us.michelin.com. All artwork will need to be picked up at Michelin’s headquarters no later than April 15, 2016 at 5:00 PM (EST).


The odds of winning will depend upon the actual number of entries received for the Contest.


By participating in this Contest, entrants agree to release, defend, indemnify and hold harmless each of the Sponsor Entities, those working on behalf of the Sponsor Entities, its affiliates, it and their parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, officers, directors, representatives, agents and employees, from any and all liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses or damages of any kind arising from or in connection with, either directly or indirectly: 1) the creation, preparation, and/or submission of any entries; 2) participation in the Contest; 3) the artwork while on exhibit at the Hughes Main Library or while in transport to the final award ceremony at Michelin’s corporate headquarters; 4) the awarding, acceptance, receipt, possession, use and/or misuse of any prize awarded herein; and/or 5) any prize-related activities, including but not limited to traveling to or from any prize-related activity.

By accepting any Contest prize, winner(s) consent to Sponsor’s use of his/her/their name, photograph and/or likeness, address, voice, and statements made by or attributed to him/her/them, in perpetuity, in any and all media now known or hereafter developed (including, without limitation, print, broadcast and Internet), for all legitimate business purposes including advertising and all promotional activities without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.
